I still remember the phase of life where everything looked âalrightâ from the outside, but inside, I used to feel completely lost. I had my responsibilities and goals, but I still didnât feel connected to what I was doing. Every morning, I used to feel like I was only going through the motions. If you ever felt that way, you are not alone. This is what led me to explore how to find life purpose in a practical, simple, and real-life manner, and not in a philosophical and complicated way.
Eventually, through small changes, reflection, and trial, I discovered that life purpose is not something that you magically discover one day. This is something that you develop, step by step. In this post, I will describe the proven methods I followed, which truly made a difference for me. And, they can help you too.
What is the meaning of âlife purposeâ?
Before diving into the topic of âhow to find life purposeâ, letâs talk about what life purpose really means.
Your life purpose is not only your job, but it is also not a single big achievement towards discovering your true calling.
Instead, it is the feeling that:
- You are aligned with your values.
- Things you do really matter.
- You wake up with a sense of direction.
Now let me ask: have you ever done something for which you lost track of time completely?

Why is it so hard to find your life purpose?
If you are still struggling with finding meaningful life goals, you are not the one. The majority of people are facing the same issue. Here are the reasons why:
- We expect instant clarity.
- We often compare ourselves to others.
- We often think our purpose has to be âbigâ.
Viktor Frankl, an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist, says that life never becomes unbearable by circumstances, but only by lack of purpose and meaning.
I used to think that my purpose should be something extraordinary. This belief then delayed my progress. After that, things started to shift from the very moment I let go of the pressure.

How can you find your life purpose?
1st method-
Start with the things you enjoy (even if it looks small) - One of the easiest methods to understand how to find life purpose is to notice things that you naturally enjoy. Donât think about what others expect, what looks impressive, or what feels right.
For me, this started with writing. I never thought it was âimportant enoughâ, but this made me feel alive.
Mark Manson, American author and blogger, says you donât find your purpose; you can create by doing things that are useful and fun.
2nd method-
Donât follow pressure, follow curiosity- Here is one thing I wish I knew beforehand. There is no need to figure out everything. When I started following curiosity and stopped forcing answers, things became quite clearer. Remember, curiosity works as a natural guide when you look for the answer to how to find life purpose.
3rd method-
Pay attention to things that drains you- Although this might sound negative, this is powerful. So, sometimes knowing the way to find a personal growth journey begins with understanding things that donât align with you. At this time, I noticed that some tasks and environments left me mentally exhausted. It was a clue- and not the sign of failure.
4th method-
Identify the core values- Remember that your values are extremely connected to your purpose. So, if you value helping others, your purpose will be to serve others. If you value freedom, then your purpose will be independence. When I started identifying the values, I understood why some paths never felt right.
A simple exercise you can do here is to write down the top 5 values you prefer from this list:
- Family
- Growth
- Creativity
- Contribution
- Stability
5th method-
Reflect regularly (This is what changed everything for me) â Reflection is where things connect. For instance, I started journaling for 10 minutes every day. This thing helped me to notice patterns in my experiences and patterns. Here are some simple reflection questions that you must ask:
- What did I learn about myself?
- What made me feel good today?
- What felt meaningless?
Remember, reflection is non-negotiable if you are serious about the ways to find self-discovery techniques.
6th method-
Take small actions (clarity comes from doing) - One of the biggest myths of how to find life purpose is that you should have clarity before action. However, it is only the opposite. Your action creates clarity. For instance, when I started taking baby steps- saying yes to opportunities, trying new things- I learned a lot more things about myself than I ever did only by thinking. So, start small by:
- Volunteering.
- Trying a new hobby.
- Joining a class.
Every step will teach you something. Tony Robbins, American author and coach, mentions that the art of fulfillment is the art to master life. And success without fulfillment is a failure.
7th method-
Donât compare your journey- This one seems tough. We belong to a world where everybody seems to have figured out things. But the truth is that many people are still figuring out things. So, comparing yourself will only confuse your sense of purpose.
8th method-
Accept that the purpose evolves- Your present purpose today might not be the same after 10 years, and thatâs okay. Previously, I used to think finding purpose was a one-time occurrence. Now I consider it as an ongoing process. This thing makes me more excited and less stressed.

How to know you are moving toward your purpose?
You may not feel completely sure, but here are the signs that signify that you are on the right track in finding inner fulfillment.
- You feel a sense of growth.
- You feel more engaged in doing things.
- You face less resistance.
- You begin to trust yourself more.
This way, even small progress counts.
Closing thoughts
If you have been looking for how to find life purpose, here are some important points to consider.
You donât have to figure out everything. Start small, take action, and stay curious. Remember that your purpose is not to hide somewhere far away. It is already within you, waiting to be explored through your growth, experiences, and choices.
